Operation Cratchit a huge success!

Operation Cratchit 2011 was a huge success, thanks to the generosity of our donors and volunteers. Nearly 70,000 lbs. of food was donated and delivered by the students of Jesuit High School. Other generous food donations came from Brookfield School, Smythe Elementary School, as well as numerous businesses and individuals.

The employees of Aerojet gave a huge donation of new toys, including over 30 brand new bicycles with helmets! Toys for Tots also provided hundreds of new toys to the program. Others that gathered toys & gifts include 3fold, Bank of America Retirees, Metro Edge, GNNA, and many individuals.

We are thankful to the many volunteers who helped sort, pack, and distribute the Christmas Baskets. 743 households were served this year! On behalf of the recipients, we thank you for your support….Operation Cratchit could not happen without you!

Just Two Stops Left!

After making stops at Jiffy Lube on Monday, Bows and Arrows on Tuesday, B Street Theatre on Wednesday and Esquire IMAX Theatre yesterday, the 3fold Traveling Holiday Bin on behalf of Stanford Settlement’s Operation Cratchit is at Cafe Bernardo Midtown (2726 Capitol Avenue) today and hits the Urban Hive (1931 H Street) on Saturday.

The bin has been well-received at all businesses this week and donations of wrapping paper, nonperishable food items and toys have been pouring in. Thank you to all that have donated or plan on donating to Operation Cratchit this year!

Traveling Bin On Its Way

3fold Communications is collecting donations for Operation Cratchit this week with the help of six Midtown businesses. The traveling bin stops at Jiffy Lube at 3000 Capitol Avenue on Monday, December 5 and then off to Bows and Arrows 1712 L Street on Tuesday, December 6. Cash-strapped local governments have been making the painful choice to close public pools. The list of places where pools have been in jeopardy in recent years includes some of the sweatiest spots in the nation, among them Central Florida, Atlanta and Houston. The Clunie Pool in Sacramento has remained open, but its hours are limited. Several of Stanford’s Day Camp kids are featured in the photos in the slide show.

For more than three decades Sister Jeanne has led the Gardenland-Northgate area non-profit since 1976 with spunk and a smile. The Standford Settlement board of trustees recently paid tribute to Sister Jeanne by celebrating her 35th anniversary as executive director during their annual dinner.

22nd Annual Senior Center v. Teen Center Pool Tournament

The 22nd annual Senior Center v. Teen Center Pool Tournament was held April 20th at our Senior Center. All five games of the tourney were close, and after the fourth game, the seniors and teens were tied. Sister Jeanne cheered for both of her teams! The final match-up was intense, but the teens won! They took the championship plaque back to the Teen Center, until the next match-up in spring 2011!
